Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Cinema & Territory. International Journal of Arte and Image’s Anthropology (IJAIA) welcomes original scholarly contributions that explore the relationships between cinema, visual culture, art, territory, anthropology, media studies, and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal encourages submissions from researchers, academics, practitioners, and emerging scholars whose work advances critical understanding of moving images, visual representation, cultural practices, spatial dynamics, and artistic expression in contemporary and historical contexts. Manuscripts submitted to the journal should present unpublished work that is not under consideration by any other publication and should demonstrate academic rigor, conceptual clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

Authors are requested to prepare their manuscripts in clear and scholarly English. Submissions should be typed in a standard readable font such as Times New Roman, 12-point size, with 1.5 line spacing and adequate margins on all sides. The manuscript should normally include a concise and informative title, the name(s) of the author(s), institutional affiliation(s), contact details of the corresponding author, an abstract of approximately 150–250 words, and 4–6 relevant keywords. To facilitate impartial review, authors may be asked to provide a separate title page containing personal and institutional information, while the main manuscript should avoid any identifying references where appropriate.

The journal accepts research articles, theoretical essays, methodological discussions, visual anthropology studies, film analysis, art criticism, and interdisciplinary contributions connected to cinema and image studies. Research articles should generally contain a clear introduction, statement of objectives or research questions, review of relevant literature, methodology where applicable, analysis or discussion, conclusion, and a complete list of references. Authors should ensure that arguments are logically organized and supported by appropriate evidence, citations, visual materials, or empirical data.

All sources cited in the manuscript must be accurately referenced using a consistent academic citation style throughout the paper. Authors are responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all references, quotations, figures, tables, and other supplementary materials. Where visual images, film stills, artworks, maps, or other copyrighted materials are included for scholarly discussion, authors should provide appropriate acknowledgements and ensure that their use complies with applicable legal and ethical standards.

Tables, figures, illustrations, photographs, and other visual elements should be submitted in high-quality format and numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Each visual element should include a descriptive caption and, where necessary, a source statement. Authors should indicate the preferred placement of figures and tables within the manuscript to assist the production process.

The journal values originality and academic integrity. Authors should ensure that their submissions are free from plagiarism, inappropriate citation practices, data fabrication, and other forms of academic misconduct. Proper acknowledgement must be given to the work of other scholars, and any use of generative artificial intelligence tools in the preparation of the manuscript should be undertaken responsibly, with full human oversight of the content, interpretation, and conclusions presented in the article.

Submissions are evaluated through a peer-review process conducted by experts in the relevant field. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, theoretical contribution, methodological soundness, analytical depth, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the aims and scope of the journal. Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewers’ comments, and revised submissions should be accompanied by a clear explanation of the changes made.

Before submission, authors are encouraged to carefully proofread their manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting consistency, and reference accuracy. Manuscripts that do not conform to the journal’s formatting and scholarly standards may be returned for technical revision prior to review. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and have agreed to its submission to the journal.

By submitting a manuscript to Cinema & Territory. International Journal of Arte and Image’s Anthropology (IJAIA), authors confirm that the work represents an original academic contribution, that all individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions are appropriately acknowledged, and that the manuscript complies with accepted standards of research ethics and scholarly publishing. The editorial board reserves the right to make minor editorial modifications to accepted manuscripts in order to improve clarity, consistency, readability, and conformity with the journal’s style and publication standards.

Manuscripts submitted for peer review are handled through a confidential editorial process. Reviewers are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all materials received for review and must not disclose, distribute, or use unpublished content for personal or professional advantage. Similarly, authors’ personal information is accessible only to authorized editorial personnel and, where necessary, to reviewers in accordance with the journal’s peer review procedures.

The journal takes reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, misuse, or destruction.
