Peer Review Policy

Cinema & Territory. International Journal of Arte and Image’s Anthropology (IJAIA) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, scholarly integrity, and ethical publishing through a rigorous and transparent peer review process. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are evaluated on the basis of originality, scholarly contribution, methodological soundness, analytical depth, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope in the fields of cinema, visual culture, art, image studies, anthropology, media studies, and interdisciplinary cultural research.

Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial assessment by the editorial office and the Editor-in-Chief. This preliminary screening is conducted to determine whether the submission fits the journal’s thematic scope, follows the author guidelines, demonstrates an appropriate level of academic quality, and complies with basic ethical and scholarly standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for technical modification or may be declined without external review.

Double-Blind Peer Review

IJAIA follows a double-blind peer review system. In this process, the identities of both the authors and the reviewers are concealed throughout the review procedure in order to ensure fairness, objectivity, and independence in the evaluation of scholarly work. Authors are therefore requested to prepare their manuscripts in a manner that does not reveal their identity within the main text, footnotes, acknowledgements, or file metadata.

Reviewer Selection

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with recognized expertise in the relevant subject area. Reviewers are selected on the basis of their academic qualifications, research experience, publication record, and familiarity with the manuscript’s topic. The editorial board seeks to avoid conflicts of interest and to ensure that reviews are conducted impartially and professionally.

Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers are invited to evaluate manuscripts according to several criteria, including:

  • Originality and significance of the research topic

  • Relevance to cinema, art, image studies, anthropology, and related interdisciplinary fields

  • Theoretical and conceptual contribution

  • Adequacy and appropriateness of the methodology, where applicable

  • Quality and depth of analysis and interpretation

  • Engagement with relevant scholarly literature

  • Organization, coherence, and clarity of writing

  • Validity of conclusions and scholarly contribution to the field

Reviewers provide constructive comments intended to assist both the editors and the authors in improving the quality of the manuscript.

Editorial Decisions

Based on the reviewers’ reports and the editorial assessment, one of the following decisions may be made:

  • Accept without revisions

  • Accept with minor revisions

  • Revise and resubmit (major revisions required)

  • Reject

The final decision regarding publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial board. In cases where reviewers’ recommendations differ substantially, the manuscript may be sent to an additional reviewer for further evaluation.

Revision Process

When revisions are requested, authors are expected to submit a revised version of the manuscript together with a detailed response to reviewers explaining how each comment has been addressed. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further assessment, particularly when substantial modifications have been requested.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts submitted to the journal are treated as confidential documents. Editors and reviewers must not disclose, discuss, reproduce, or use any unpublished material contained in a submitted manuscript for their own research or professional purposes without the explicit written consent of the author(s).

Ethical Standards

Editors and reviewers are expected to adhere to internationally recognized principles of publication ethics. Any suspicion of plagiarism, duplicate submission, data fabrication, image manipulation, unethical research practices, or other forms of academic misconduct will be investigated by the editorial board in accordance with accepted ethical guidelines. Appropriate corrective actions, including rejection or retraction where necessary, may be taken.

Timeliness of Review

The journal strives to conduct the peer review process in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring a thorough and careful evaluation of each submission. Authors are kept informed of the progress of their manuscripts throughout the editorial and review process, although review timelines may vary depending on the availability of qualified reviewers and the complexity of the manuscript.
